545-Halloween
I am sick and tired of all of the media portraying everything as bad or scary in America. I recently read an article that talked about the poisoning of candy during Halloween. It turns out that there have only been 2 confirmed cases, and both of them were the child's parents poisioning them. I have very fond memories of running house to house and asking total strangers for candy. I then trudged home and compared my haul to that of my older brother. I think that the media blows things way out of proportion, such as there is a murderer hiding behind every bush and that all students are lazy. I don't believe that. We have some great students here at Arapahoe, and great educators. It seems like the only time an educator is in the news is when they are sleeping with a student. I just wish the news was not so pessimistic and frightening, when it could be used for much greater purposes.

I was so surprised at the small number of tricker-treaters. My neighborhood growing up had hoards of kids scrounging for candy. We were out for hours, as well. We were lucky to get 8 knocks on the door. I think you are right in that the media does have such a dramatization of events...sadly turning a fun celebration in one that parents fear.
